Hi Keels,

Bad luck about the attrition rate. There are a myriad of reasons why this might have occurred, possibly something to do with the seedlings being stable in the tray after repot ... but there are also plenty of other things that might be the culprit, at least it looks like you have enough to keep going though ... so keep at it.

In other news ... is that a Hawthorn in the background ???

Now that you mention it I reckon this would have been a big reason for the high death rate. I didn't tie the trees in very well. Only afterwards i learnt how to do a forest planting tie in job. live and learn i guess.

Possibly could be it was only collected winter just gone. it's doing well, but got attacked by aphids couple weeks ago. It's got this massive bend in the trunk.

Keels - it’s carnage ... mate when you came to my joint, I think I remember you only deal in stumps and big units; just maybe these wee little things feel your neglect. Trees have feelings you know. I am sure some will pull through .

I would like to withdraw this entry. I needed to make some hard choices when it came to the number of trees in my garden. A new born baby and time spent with a million trees is just way too hard. The forest is still pumping along though, i gave it to a friend who is just starting out. He loves it and he keeps me updated on the progress.

Its a full blown human baby Shes a lot of work and that doesn't leave alot of time for my trees. So i have cut back on the amount of trees, well tried too.

Congratulations Keels! Babies are wonderful but the lack of sleep isn't, so hang in there. My trees survived two kids. They were looking a little shaggy but they survived (the trees that is. The kids survived too).

Thanks Matt. I think the trees will get a little shaggy but they will make it through.
