I have been using them to build trunk girth- if they are trained by pulling tight against the trunk (or each other) they will fuse much quicker.

To be clear - I wasn’t meaning to offend anyone on any particular tree and indeed, this example is a harmonious flow.
More that my personal taste - for example - I recently took messy aerial roots off a NZ Christmas Tree and I’m happier with that tree now ... that said, it’s all subjective and as noted previously, there are many fine examples of trees where the aerial roots look great.
