Taking a punt on these: a decade or so of searching for 'red' flower ume has lead me finally to these 10 cuttings from a seed grown tree, so no real idea when or if they will ever flower to confirm they any variatioon on 'red flower' but it's about as close as i'm ever going to get here in Australia.

The reason i put red in quotation marks is that red ume tend to be a red-pink rather than an outright red colour like a chojubai red. None the less, i'm mad and like rare stuff.

A little premature to post these perhaps as these have only just been potted up, so they are being babied right now, but look to have nice small leaves and short internodes too, I'll be interested to see if they continue in that habit

Will get around to starting a thread for this tree when i'm feeling slightly less traumatised than i am at present by the old maple being at death's door.

I was fortunate to buy this beautiful Ume recently, threw some wire on it tonight to start getting some interesting movment into the young shoots, and couldn't resist a test fit.

I purchased this oribe green Koyo pot years ago despite not having a tree for it. I occasionally 'know' when i see a pot that i will have a tree for it one day. I thought a cascading maple would be cool in it, but i think this ume with the pink flowers will look a treat. It should be a cozy fit but eyeball guess is OK.

Looks like i've done sweet FA with it from before to after, but a bit of movement has been wired in. After flowering i will cut back the long shoots.

For size reference the terracotta pot is 25cm across and the tree is pretty much spot on 60cm tall.

Great tree. Is the angle in your photos deliberate, thinking of a new angle? I like the front from the second photo more.

Nice tree because of your work over the years mate, still very appreciative of you parting with it to me

Unglazed is on the cards down the track, but I’ve nothing unglazed currently in a suitable size. The green with the pink flowers I think will contrast each other well while I search for a suitable unglazed pot

I don't claim credit for any of it beyond the minor wiring I did there,

The angle of the photos is just an upload issue, it's staying an upright tree unless some drastic change comes to me, but it was grown by Treeman in this upright style and I like it as it is

I meant 5-10 degrees, not 90! But on closer inspection there’s a fertiliser teabag affecting the appearance of the base. Ignore me.

Ah haha yep I get you now! The fertilise bags are a bit misleading, I’ll have a tinker with the fine tuning of the planting angle but yeah pretty much as is for now
