sorry if i am hi jacking your thread a bit astro but your troubles might be similar to mine...
i done a bit of a repot on my elm yesterday afternoon. it has a lot of fine feeder roots right underneath the tree, and has a fair few long roots that strech right out to the edges of the pot but not filling the pot with feeders right at the end of them with a little bit of feeder in the middle section of the roots.
the long roots are about 4-5mm in thickness. i have repotted into a more free draining mix. hoping this helps with a good dose of seasol.
