Have 2 agree with you Bodhi, I reckon the tree is exactly the right spot mate. That dominate branch would make the setting appear to be falling over if the tree was planted in the center of the pot. Besides, I can never get them in the middle either.

No 4 gives the best real look but lighting makes a HUGE difference and want to practise more.

Hi. I have a apple tree like yours. It's just over a year old I grew it from a seed It grew 2 side shoots the past summer. When should I wire them? They are about 4 inches long. But still very flexible.
Any help would be great

Probably best to let the tree grow for a while if its only a year old. This one is about thirty years old. I would be tempted to grow it on in a large grow pot for a few years. They back bud well so you will be able to make branch selection down the track. Hope that helps.

It has been a while since posting this and the tree has had a fair bit of work done to it. I layered the top as stated in 2010 and am regrowing the top which is slow on apple trees. The lower branches are now becoming believable and the tree has a nice appearance in winter, all squat and powerful.The fruit will now come off and let it grow. Wiring these are a pain due to snapping so if you ever want one be careful wiring.

That is a sweet tree, fantastic work. Can you give us an idea of its size? The apples are full sized so the tree is quite big, yes?

It has taught me a lot this tree and i had to learn to love it.It is up there as one of my favourites.

Shock and horror I love this pot for it's amateurish appearance and the fact that you will never see another quite like it. Trevor Wheelers discard and i got it for nothing at our swap meet because he did not want to own up to it. Stamped and everything.

Dwarf tree and smaller apples than normal Symon. The tree is 400 mm tall but i plan to go 450 500mm.

Apples will come off today and be juiced so i will get one last piccy. I have worked hard on this trees Nebari and trunk line to make it appear as real as possible and, with all humility, i think the basal flare is starting to become impressive.

G'Day Steven, it would look more impressive in a shallower pot but it loves food and moisture and i like to keep this tree on the safe side. Leaving apples on it makes it work so much harder at staying healthy so i assist it all i can.
