Re: Trident maple root-over-rock (1)
Good Evening Daiviet, nice progression mate, I notice that even back in 2009 you were only using pieces of plastic or whatever to bind sections of roots to the rock. Is that your plan? Do you not think the roots will fuse to the rock faster when completely wrapped tight to the rock from top to bottom? If I can also say that i personally would be selecting only certain roots to keep training down the rock instead of allowing lots of little roots to grow down. This would allow More of the energy will go through the good few roots and thicken faster, rather than keeping lots of the little roots which drain energy from the main roots needed and look messy. Only a handful or so roots are really needed to train down the rock. Anyway keen to hear what you think mate, cheers

Good evening Craig,
Thank you for reading and posting questions.
On binding the roots -- I have seen people did it the way you have described. I can be wrong, but I gut feeling is that the roots must be in contact the growing medium, so I am very uncomfortable with that. But I understand that others have applied it with success. I found that just tie the roots as I have done will work too. When the roots are sufficently long, I usually run them across the bottom of the rock, effective holding the rock in.
On the number of little roots -- You are right. This has not turn out good for me. I used bad mix. Usually after two years I can make final roots arrangement. With this one, I am still hoping for some to become prominent, then I will cut off the ones that I do not need.
I am confident that I can dig it up next year, I will post progress photos then.
Best regards.
