I have seen a couple of very nice willows. Even in foliage. Might have even been on this forum?
Would love to keep track with you on these guys. It looks like yours is yet to develop branching and leaf out? I would like to compare your experiences. of defoliation and placement of branching Etc. These are a bugger to develop

I now think it was Bonsai talk where a guy posted a couple of really nice stocky informal upright ones. Just as we might imagine a weeping willow Bonsai could look.

Hi Brett,
I could not tell you exactly how many but it is a fairly big genus. I grow some of the small alpine species including one salix apoda which is completely prostrate. It is illegal to sell any members of this genus in Aus.

So tell me guys which salix can I sell I am certainly not allowed to sell the little alpine ones which are quite difficult to grow and I know Don teese at Yamina had to remove some of the species with coloured winter stems from his list. I also know Stephen Ryan at macedon had to remove salix ioratum from his list. Last time I had the plant police in my nursery they made it quite clear salix was off the menu.

Hi Brett & Bodhi,
I had a discussion with Stephen Ryan yesterday about salix and you guys are correct there are 3 species which can be sold all of them are used in the cut flower trade which is the reason they are still available. All the other salix species are totally banned.

Hi Craig , yes any of the willow species can be used .With the current condition up here the willows has burst into life so i,m trying the summer/Autumn growth for its effectiveness .Cheers
Thanks Alpine thats all I really wanted to know. Apparently there is a willow species that is responsible for disprin which is also sometimes used as a root forming agent. Perhaps there is a connection.
