well its either kikuwa or nobuichi that leigh sells any one have both and or have any preferance

I have Kikuwa root shears that I am very happy with - not sure about the Nobuichi

If your after VERY cheap leaf/general shears B$&@?ngs has some for 2 bucks, got some today when I was wandering around in there, I was pleasently surprised by how sharp they are when I got home.

if they are the ones with the red handles they are really good for the price, i bought some a while back and was just as surprised as you at how good they were

I have Kikuwa root shears that I am very happy with - not sure about the Nobuichi

I bought three pairs of Nobuichi scissors from Leigh about 6 weeks ago and am extremely pleased so far. They have a good feel to the trimming scissors and I finally got to use the heavy root pruners on Friday at the collection and today on the PJ Fig; in another thread.

I have a mix of stainless tools brands from over the last twenty years or so and these seem fine so far.

Hi Dayne, I bought a set of Kaneshin stainless tools at the factory in Japan and on my return I compared them with stainless ones at Bonsai Environment in Vinyard. Thes were so similar that care was needed not to mix them up! The price was very similar to what I paid in Japan maybe a bit less. It might be worth checking out their website or giving them a call. I don't know what the brand name on them was.
I have a mix of black steel tools from Mazakuni that I have been using for donkey's years and some from Kaneshin too. I don't think anyone here now stocks Masakuni as they got pretty exey.
I love good tools and they give you much more enjoyment in the bonsai work than the pain of parting with the cash.
