hey mate

just going over these pics again, i reckon going by the riits and looking at this with the taper that image 0893 is a possible front, it also has a small branchlet there that could go up as a new leader, be very careful cutting back on an angle as it can damamge the new leader, i have knocked a few selected leaders before.
i like this tree a lot regan, it will be a ripper

ok it has had the chop
heres the bit that came off

here is the tree just after the chop
IMG_0911.JPG
the oh bugger moment came just after that photo, i was just having a look at the branches and what i was going to do with it. I stepped back and stood on my puppy, the big branch that I was thinking of using for the leader was pretty much snapped right off.
A mass of grafting tape and wire and it is attached again, hopefully all will be well, just that there will allways be a weak spot there now
Cheers Regan

that will be fine mate

since you have done the chop now you will have a mass of new shoots to choose from. personally i would of gone to a lower branch but all good
hows the pup ???

Still not sure about going lower on this one mate, I did have a vision of a taller tree, trying to stay away from a sumo with this one.
not too worried about the snap now but at the time I was not happy, lucky its a fig, and only in training, imagine if it was a fully developed pine or something
pup is fine, just a bit shocked at what happened to her
Cheers Regan

it will make a fine taller tree with nice taper too.
so the heavy branch is the one you snapped? and you have now wired it up yes?

Looks like a healthy tree from the pics mate so fingers crossed that the branch hangs on. Even if it dosnt it will just power on now.
Good luck with it
