I started of by doing a whole bunch of DIY instructions
http://www.instructables.com/member/Lftndbt/. Basic electronics stemed from there. The elecs I use are simple items, no programming, capacitators, resistors or hard electronics. They invlove simple plug n play items.... 12v motor + gear box + switch + battery. Really very simple, I am not good with laying out circuit boards, so prefer to work with bare minimum.
Let me know, when you go to give it a go, I can help you out if you like. I build another and install it for a small fee.

I am actually working out atm, if I could create a viable part time business installing these. I can see a great benefit for chained off displays, as the auto-turntable gives the ultimate view of a plant with good and the bad angles.
