The Ash seems to be slow to color this year, both at home and at the collection. As I dewire my ash at home it is dropping a lot of leaf so it won't look good this year but it could be spectacular next year in a glazed pot, more foliage and ramification and good color.

Update on the Ash.

Just finished unwiring it and here it is.

This is about 18 months since the first wire went on and it still has a long way to go. It will soften as the years go by and as the following happens..

More ramification from years of growth and multiple defoliation.

Scars to heal over in time.

Nice pot for chunky deciduous tree.

It will be wired a couple of times per season for a few years and then it will eventually become just trimming back and thinning out I hope.

Looks great and is intresting to see from all sides. This should be lots of fun to work on over the years

Most inspiring, Grant. I was most impressed with the leaf reduction and have hope for my walnuts yet.

I noticed that the scars were quite dark on colour, are you using a wound sealant or healing formulation on them? Or is this cosmetic to minimise the visual impact of the scars? (I use charcoal to “colour in” fresh cuts on my garden plants to make pruning cuts seem to disappear)

Was the leaf reduction mainly just defoliation or was it combined with other strategies?

I look forward to seeing this Ash develop.

Can't speak about walnuts.

The scars were covered two or 3 years ago with the Japanese sealant in the green steel tube, Kiyonal. This dries clear but dark. The amount of growth through the tree in the last year or so hasn't healed the scar over yet so I need to recut the wound, reseal with Kiyonal, then over seal with the putty, then fertilize and get it growing strongly.

Leaf reduction was purely multiple defoliations.

Great tree Grant I think the sign of a high quality tree is when they look good from all angles. It`s going to look even better when the bark ages on the new section, I love it. Cheers Rod.....
