that could be possible there mick! my google search for buxus semp. turned up those pics, might be a variation the one i got!

doesnt buxus normally have a light tan trunk? thats what throws me off with it, and as bodhi stated buxus have very fibrous root systems.

you will be able to tell soon when it buds out though!

was the trunk buried? might explain why the bark is so dark. how big is the trunk? buxus are slow growers but can get big reasonably quick with sacrificial branching, not that this one has had that done but it could of had low branching at one stage that died off or something to pump its size up :D

Hey all,
6 months later and it looks like you guys were correct.
The fleshy leaves say it is Cropsoma.
Here are some pics from today.
Any thoughts on styling are more than welcome.
I think I need to chop it down and put it in a smaller pot but no rush.
The natural dead wood looks great.

I love it when we get it right. You are also right, Drastic height reduction needed and time to start treating the deadwood. Coprosma gets stringy when it has rot. Responds well to total defoliation. You can plant the offcut branches like a giant cutting and they take off.

Thanks Bodhi,
Anyone got thoughts on where to cut and future styling ideas?

Hey Crowie
I think this is a great trunk and has huge potential. I don't have any photo editing software on this PC to give you my thoughts on future style but I think your first photo in the latest updates pretty much is where I would chop down the tree too. Then I would build a canopy around the deadwood exposing that as the main focal point of the tree. If I get a chance on my editing software I will post up my thoughts as this has a number of great ideas to consider.
