the Japanese maples are coming on well, their first set of palmate leaves are beautifull. all that rain has made them thrive. ive been giving them a little bit of seasol every now and then well watered down.

That last one is definitely a maple seedling and some of the others are probably maples but I'm pretty sure a couple of the seedlings back further are tomatoes. Did you use compost in the mix?
Watch out for 'damping off' at this stage. plenty of sun and air movement helps prevent this fungal disease but if it starts drench the seedlings and soil mix with fugicide.
Damping off disease - Stems near ground level shrivel and collapse. Initially the leaves stay healthy but die after a few days as the stem cannot feed the leaves.

Simo, the two first leaves are seed leaves, cotyledons. These don't have the shape of the 'proper' leaves of the plant, and it is often hard to tell what species you have until the second set of leaves appears, with something more like an adult shape. Dont panic, wait for the second set, if you have a batch that all look similar they are probably whatever you planted. If they aren't your seed mix is badly contaminated with weeds! Use a professional seed raising mix which is sterlilized and you will only get what you planted.
For your further education, there are two main groups of flowering plants, monocotyledons and dicotyledons. Monocots are grasses, lilies etc, strappy leaved things, flower parts in multiples of 3 and one seed leaf. I dont think there are any Monocots which feature in bonsai. Dicots are everything other flowering plant, two seed leaves, flower parts in multiples of either 4 or 5. You can see that the cas have two seed leaves, but the next leaves to follow look like a cas needle, quite different.
Conifers are different again, they are not flowering plants.
