Hi Noah,

What is a melonseed ficus? I've never seen one and am having trouble googling it. Could you please post a photo so we can see? Love your other figs though. Did you take all your figs south, or did you have to leave some behind?

Melonseed is a variety of ficus microcarpa if im correct. native to china and Tiawan i think. I have abit of info on them from Jerry Meislik (Ficus the Exotic bonsai)This tree is grafted as in all branches which are melonseed are grafted to the trunk which is tigerbark(a type of microcarpa) as melonseed is slow to form decent trunks but is the smallest in leaf size of all the microcarpas. ill get some pics up of the leaves shorty big floods here atm again

I pretty much took adozen or so figs i had some attachment to with me but sold off a heap b4 i came including queensland small leafs and white figs. The melonssed and willowleafs need protection in winter below 5 for any prolonged period they aint happy.

Great Figs noah! I hope mine turns out half as good as yours. Mines just a baby but I'm just happy i haven't killed it

What would you use to feed them?

it's good to see your figs are doing well, however, if you ever have any difficulty in keeping them, you know i will look after them for you.

Thanks for that Noah. I did ev3entually find some info on Jerry Meislik's site, but there was no photo. Will appreciate a photo when you have the time.

Melon Seed, a small leaf variety of microcarpa, looks about the same as typical microcarpa but about 1/3 the size. The leaf color is often a bit yellowish to my eye.

Glenda, to look at melon seed ficus, duck on down to the Big Green Shed (the B place) and have a look at the 'Pot Belly Figs' they sell, If I am not wrong that is what has been grafted to the Rootstock of another fig, the name of which escapes me right now. If I am wrong, someone will tell us both,

lovely day here today so i decided to do some work in the bonsai area, first up i decided to give my 2 favorite willow leafs a trim and wire. The large one has budded fantantic since defoliation with very small leafs , a little more filling in on the leaf side upper branch and space between the pads and i think the tree is a winner, my little shohin one as well which im in love with two

ch 2 my GF disapointment. Dont ask which one i like better

Fantastic noah they both look great but i really like the little one and it gives me some ideas with the willow leaf i have.

It looked like a lovely day to be out and about doing bonsai
