I had a branch die back last year which forced a slight re design, a few more jin and some new shari have been started.

Interesting...What do you think caused the die back?

I am sure it was mites

I have just made some more adjustments.
Chosen a new apex
thinned
removed a couple of branches and created more deadwood
shortened all the branches on the right
separated the low branch into several pads instead of one large one.

Wow! Gerard, I would not have recognised this tree as originally styled by Michael Persiano, if you hadn't said so. For anyone who would like to see Persiano's original styling of the tree from raw stock, Bonsai Northwest has copies of the conference video from AABC 2007 in the library.

The tree is getter better and better as you refine it Gerard. i never liked the bottom branch but now i think it makes the tree. Great pot/tree combo.

looks nice in the photo but wondering about the 3d look when viewed live------are you going to try to fuse the two trunks where they "touch"?

No plans to fuse them, it would take forever. I think this branch gives the tree something interesting.

After spending a year in Canberra the tree returned nice and healthy but a bit overgrown. I like to keep junipers a little sparse so that I can see the branch structure but to be allowed to grow freely for more than a year also has benefits. I have now removed more than half of the foliage and rewired the entire tree

May I ask, did you start the "fuse" or was it like that?
I ask as I have a Juni triple fuse on the go right now, about 18mths in from awesome stock that I bought from Cairns of all places.
This gives me inspiration to continue, many thanks

The fuse/graft was done about 20 years ago by a supplier (I believe John H, who does a lot of work with Tien at Bonsai Sensation) The tree was provided to the AABC for the convention in 2007 and I purchased it after it's initial styling in 2007.

Without the bottom branch this tree would just be another "cookie cut" Juniper.
With the bottom branch this tree is dynamic and interesting.

Forgive me if i seem impertinent, have you considered compressing the left branch back up to the jin allowing you to shift the whole branch/trunk a touch away from the main one....sort of mother-child kinda thing. Again, sorry if I'm out of order.
