If you have an unrestrained cat the answer is obvious

If the problem persists & the owners wont do anything most councils offer a trapping service... if the animal is not registered etc then its to the pound. The owners have 2wks to claim it (and pay for registration microchipping etc) or a home be found, or if not its put to sleep (the best thing for most of them).

Woody, dont judge on this thread alone, did you join the forum coz you like little trees or cats? Suggest you dont join a Koi forum coz its not just cats that they will advise you shoot!

woody i guess some of these comments maybe out of context but it is a open forum. I hope you do stay, i guess the best option maybe to raise the bonsai onto a stand etc or somewhere the cat cant access. IN all honesty though say you had a bonsai worked and loved for 20 years + and worth several thousand dollars if some neighbours cat came and did consideraly damage to it or worse on your property i dont think you would be saying what a bad kitty and leave it at that or maybe i just have differant opinions. Back to the subject i hope the elm recovers well and this cat problem can be resolved

sorry if my comment has offended you but people down the road own 8 cats none desexed and all roam the street, i have a cat and
it is damn hard to get her to wake up as she is old and the cats down the road pick on her for no reason and i have also got a pond with
koi and gold fish in it and her mongrel cats have eatting 5 of my koi or killed them and left on lawn so i am pissed at people who dont have responseable
attitude towards there pets my motto is
you have pets you look after them, restrain them, train them and if cats enclosed run in backyard and it saves any arguments

Not cats pe se, irresponsible owners that let them roam onto others property, doing damage as Noah has said, it has happened to me.

All dogs have to be licenced and when off of your property have to be on a leash, and restrained the owner has to pick up its feces. Or pay huge fines why not Cats.

Because the loving owners will kick up all sorts of bedlam. Then when it is ignored and brought in. Abandon them so they turn feral. Which is the worse. You might not but a majority do.

When the mine in Wittenoom closed in 1966 all the dogs were taken by there owners, to there new homes be them here in WA, or other parts of the country.
All cats with no exceptions were abandoned, left to fend for themselves so loved they were. Now a huge problem in the National park.

I think it was Ken's own cats that had done the damage, but I do agree that with unrestrained animals the owners should be responsible for what ever damage. It is their animal not the neibours, the owner should look after them.

I wasnever sure wether to believe the stories of trees dying from cat and dog pee. Yet I had a gum tree growing very strong in the ground that died very unexpectedly after I chopped it back for the third time. I could only guess that my large dog peed on it to kill it
