Sounds good Miyagiman, any chance of some pictures to get the brian thinking?
Mitchell wrote:If you continue the awning round, then use a low fence (perhaps from screening material/bamboo) you would be creating a nice "walk in and thru" feeling of a space rather than 3 entities.

Awesome setup, wish I could do something like what you have. :)
That is also a good idea Mitchell I love it but not sure I could get that past the Misses and for the cost I could probably throw half my collected stock out and buy some great trees that will fit on my benches now :palm:

I still have an awesome lilly pilly to collect in a few weeks

Thanks Guys all the ideas are helping getting the brian out of it's rut

Dont forget me Brett, :D :D :D
i still need trees for my yard, specially now that the new yard reno is in progress. An idea for more bench space.
I would step out the bottom of the benches, you have up the back there. It would be like stairs, should still have some room to walk through if i member right. Hope i have explained it right. :lost:
Just dont throw out them trees! ;)

Nice Brett :-)
I have the same problem, Not enough space to have all the trees I have, then I go over to mated house today and dig up 4 more largish ones , 3 small Rooted Azaleas and 1 giant Azalea Clump! that I will have to cut up into at least 3 pieces to fit in foam boxes!

Gaaahh I have the disease !

Ive been looking at the boxes of Trident seedlings all day Petra thinking I need to give one too you. I also planned to dig the last of the self seeded tridents out of the pool yard. I think they are about an inch thick by now. Even though I threw one in the bin I potted up another two from around the yard as they had decent root bases. I put digging the self seeded elms out of the pool yard into the too hard basket. They are buggers to dig out. I think I will make nice little hedges out of them for now. Maybe I can get some nice cuttings of them in the future.

I thought about stepping out the bench years ago when I made it but figured this would be plenty of room for my trees :palm:

One box I mean
Edit Edit: I have a kangaroo paw already out of the ground. If it is still alive on Tuesday I will give it to Pol (as well as an Iris) but it is yours if you want it he reckons they die on his farm? Also I can split the Iris if you also want some of that.

Yes it is very easy to do KC. When I saw Pups collection it was amazing how many great trees he had in such a small area. I wonder how it looked years ago when he was collecting trees and they needed time to recover :?:
I find I have trees everywhere growing out, recovering or what not, but if I let others do that work for me I could utilize a much smaller area.
Hmm :?:

I showed the misses your idea Mitchell and although it was OMG she did like it :o She siad that I could make up a screen bench at the end of the veranda to block the niebours view but agian that will not help much as it is a spot for all my stock trees that uis the issue?

I tried out Gerards idea and got a no way from the misses but there is hope as she was laughing when she siad it

in my opinion rather than throwing stock out you should at least offer it for sale for a week or two. what people dont buy and you dont want chuck in the bin at least then you get a bit of money and you see some trees move on to new homes. :2c:

Hey Keizer
Believe me it was not easy leaving a finger thick trident in the refuse pile. I did think others would love to have it but there comes a time that space and time rule.
I will endevour to put up a no reserve quick auction tomorrow on the stuff that would otherwise go in the bin.
I am heading to my third ever Canberra club meeting. Maybe I should take some stuff with me to give away?

What I do is make or break root prunes. Go hard and if it survives it stays. You know what happens if they don't. I have just recently made a decision that I don't want any half arsed trees in my collection, don't have the space or the time! I spent today doing just that. Also tossed some shari little trees as well!

Ha ha I remember you telling me that a couple of years ago Jarrod. That was the year I chopped the hell out of all my finger size tree roots. Usually 99% would have survived but that was the year the fungus hit me and about 50% died and I still have too many

I go through the same thing every time around repotting :D guess I just get sick of messing around with crap trees! I am starting to whittle the herd down to a manageable level. Also getting rid of lots of small trees for one big one, easier to kept the water up to large trees in summer!

Ahh Bretts, if only I had your space! My back yard (suburban melbourne unit) would fit twice in your pool :o you see space is a relative term my friend ... relative to how many trees we can squeeze into said restricted space. I believe this is the only way we can control our adiction  good luck, hard choices make us appreciate what still have even more. Btw your display benches are SWEET, wish I had the room for something like that

Hi Ryan

We have been looking at lots of houses for sale over the last few years and one of the first things I look for is the size of the yard. Then I visited Pup and saw what can be done with a small space. Albeit that it took up 90% of the back yard
The thing that seems to take all the space is the trees growing out or recovering from collection so I have started to consider the smaller yards with the idea that I only have more finished trees. Also looking at outsourcing space for collected trees :palm:
I get what you are saying about appreciating what we have. It feels good to get rid of stock to concentrate on the better trees.

Thanks for the compliment on the benches I think the latest addition makes it look like a finished project and we are very happy. I am surprised I didn't get any comments on the flowering orchid from the orchid lovers. Not quit as good as the first show it gave us but still very nice I reckon ;)

So you got rid of some trees? If so, well done! The first step is admitting there is a problem :D :hooray:

No can't say I have gotten rid of any yet :palm: I think mentioned I took the chainsaw to a few root balls of collected trees so I could downsize their pots. Also I put most of the olives around the side of the house, not a great spot for sun but they will survive ok until I put them into smaller pots either later this year or the next.
I do plan on giving a growbox full of trident saplings to Petra.
At the moment this has reduced the space I am taking up to my benches, shade house and just one side of the pond decking so that is manageable for now. We will see what happens when the repotting really starts. I plan on an easy repotting year so I might have some spare time to sought more out 8-)
