I would have to agree with Ken and Neal
Deshojo or Satsuki - probably leaning toward the Azalea.
Why...
What sparked my enthusiasm for Bonsai was an Azalea that Ray Nesci owns, i saw this tree at a Garden Trade Show where i was also exhibiting.
This 'thing' was completely covered in flowers, no leaves visible - from memory he named it Fairy Floss, whether he was just playing around with me or not - but it honestly looked magnificent. Its been 3 years since i first saw that bonsai and if i close my eyes, i can still see it sitting on that bench.
Why... to try and replicate that bonsai.

A native like a bottle brush or a silver birch both mature trees for me..

A really, really good one,

For me it would have to be 'Olea europaea (africana)' because of the gnarled old trunks, the small dark green leaves against the light grey bark.
