Yep, as I thought, all small sumo style bonsai. all the same shape. very nice bonsai as it goes I like them a lot. but very unenspiring if that's all you got at a bonsai show.

several actually and you will find some of them postede here Just like yours
None of them will be anything like your 1:2 ( Height : across the Nebari ) but most will be at least 1:6 ( Height : Trunk Girth). You will even find a Formal upright in training that is more like 1:16
As I say, Just because one Demonstrator says it is so, Doesn't make it universally true.
Here is my Trident formal to be i a few years. The trunk base might get a bit thicker ( but not much) but it will not bet any shorter either.
The branches will I hope develop in a few years time to give a nice outline and I hope to see it in a show somewhere and have people admire it.
Personally I do not like trees that I class as Sumo, but prefer the more slender and elegant styles

When I measure these tree in the this post i am replying to
I get the first tree you showed at about 1:5 Ratio, And the second is even taller at nearer to 1:6
These are measured from the widest point on the trunk above the Nebari, but even if you take them across the nebari at the soil level, they are 1:3 or bigger
Neither is anything like your 1:2 you mention so what is the point?
Most of the other trees you post in the next 2 posts are similar too. There are some Sumo style, not not many

Thats a beautiful tree ken no really i mean it. truly mate. im not kidding. I too cant stand sumo. even more when someone doesn't know the difference,
Dont be confused learn where to measure from. The feet not the ankles. They're are the achilles heal in the composition. The feet is where the stability comes from and therefor an important part of the equation. Now if you're still confused after this i cant help ya. You have to help your self or ask bretts and Chris rock. They're on to it!!!
