Been a while since anyone posted here. These grow like weeds in my town, Port Hedland… I saw one in a large square pot (50x50cm about 30cm deep) and it stood about 1.5-1.7meters tall. There was no visible wiring so I asked the question - how do you do it? The answer surprised me a little… I was told that the soil needs to be poor quality, well draining - NO Fertiliser! Water sparingly (I've not watered mine for over 5 years - it gets its moisture from the environment (humidity) and some from local rain (once every 10 months), the rest is being "Pot/Root bound"…

Like I said, I've been instructed to 'neglect it - (pot bound, little water, poor soil) and it will flourish, and it has. Only thing I can't seem to get right is trimming branches as it always has dieback which stays unsightly at the end of every branch. I have decided that it is time to repot it, tho as it has been really really long time since I did anything.

I've had one in a bonsai pot for a couple of years, it gets very little water and has had no training except a branch removal when I got it. It has finished flowering and currently has seed pods.

for those that know the adenium desert roses. Would you be able to tell me the trick to getting them to bulk up please. I bought one last year and it appears to be growing spindly on top. I will try to get a picture posted soon. the roots and the base are ok. but getting more leaner. the branches and the trunk have grown more sparsely in full sun now. Maybe it is too young to get the base to thicken. As you can guess I am new to this variety.
I am in Brisbane.

I do have some 15 seedlings about 3cm tall if anyone interested? I can post. I bought too many by far. I was going to keep them growing but got into serrissa snowflake, junipers, black pine, ficus. Decided to broaden my horizons.

Was the plant grown from seed or cuttings? Seed grown seem to bulk up better than cuttings. To help them thicken up, each time you re-pot raise the plant a little.

Hi Mark thanks for the advice, when I repotted last year I planted it up and now just waiting, but with that in mind I have had them in semi shade most of last year and have bought some new shelving and now they are a ablaze in the sun and loving it. The seedlings are looking much more alive and getting a few more leaves. I think that was my mistake not having them in the sun.
But agree with you about planting up each time.

Thank you I haven't got an age on it, but it has bloomed and was in bloom when I purchased it.
