here is the spring update on this tree.

I think once these candles open out its going to be a full looking little tree. Would you thin a few or leave it and see I would love some more thickness in the trunk but will have to be patient.

Hope everyone elses JBPs are cracking along.

Lookin good squizz, ever though about compressing or cork screwing the trunk down for a more staunch look?

Hi Andrew,

Do you mean from the point where the wire marks stop ( the foliage section of the tree) or the wire marked section. The foliage section is looking very young and upright in comparrison isnt it.

Thanks for the observation.

I have not read the whole post, so this could have been covered earlier. How did you get the "screw" effect in the trunk?

Cheers

Cheers for the comments guys

Compressing the tree is a good option. I'm going to do my best to give it a rest this year. It has been cut and pulled and twisted a lot so I am thinking it could be wise to let it do some growing. Is this a good approach ?

Gerald the tree was like this when I bought it. I imagine e it was wired and left on. It's a technique I have used on a few of my seedlings. It could possibly have been done with a bit more movement but it is what it is.

I only meant the foliage might be a tad bit too heavy for the trunkline, but nothing a few years in the ground couldnt fix though.

Here is an update for the end of summer on this tree.

I have been nervous about the root growth in this mix I created. My opinion on the mix is the peat moss was a big no no. It keeps the mix way to wet.

I pulled it out gently and re potted into a standard bonsai nursery mix just in case. There has been plenty of growth but it is thin and not as stiff as I would expect from a JBP. Hopefully this new mix will sort out any issues in the next year or so and then I will do a proper re pot.

I am fairly happy with the shape but think I might need some advice on thinning out?

Any comments advice or critique is more than welcome.

Photo to come.
