I like the idea, its something different and with so many similar bonsai trees being displayed its good to see something different.

I think if you are going to pull it off you need a screen in there though, a broken one obviously, but I think to get the look you are going for there needs to be a screen that looks like the plant has smashed through it from the inside

like this:

I also think it would look cool if the roots somehow came out and over the base of the monitor, id then sit the monitor on top of a pot and water the pot as opposed to figuring out some way of keeping soil etc inside the monitor.

Paul, that is awesome  Your own work or another artist? I want to see more.

The visual your talking about could be achieved using a perspex sheet to simulate the screen, safer than glass but still allow for the roots to push thru. The case has been gutted giving about the same volume as a 40cm nursery pot, provides good drainage & water input, the front surround comes off very easy so the 'screen' can be cut to fit the internal dimensions. Not sure what paint I could use on the perspex to get the look of a monitor, something more to research :reading:

Very interesting link Matt. Pretty slow for the first few minutes, but then a disturbing amount of action. I knew lots of nukes had been detonated, but didn't know it was that many. It was a little disturbing to see so many going off in the western USA too, which is where I live. Again, knew it happened, but not to that extent. Lots going off down there in the outback too it looks like. It's a shame that our desire to destroy each other leads us to such destruction of everything else. And watching those tallies add up is definitely one of the times where I haven't exactly been proud of my country. :palm: Even if nukes and testing are justified, I can't imagine the quantity being necessary.
