all trees back in leaf
moss, ground cover and small azaleas growing well
especially since I have stopped Blackbirds flicking all of it out on to the ground
hence the bird mesh
a little unsightly but necessary

Just saw this and dont know how i missed it in the first place. Great composition and a great naming which will stick forever i think. Superbly done

I really like the way this one is heading. I really like the Hòn Non Bộ plantings but it is hard to find information on them. That's translatable that is..

Can I ask how you are dealing with drainage on this? Or are the figs ok with a little water that it doesn't matter

This gets watered when I water the garden with a big sprinkler. (This garden is 1200 sg/m.) That's every second day in summer. The tray has overlowed from heavy rain on rare occasions but it mostly has a little bit of water in the bottom or none. If I think the water has been laying in there too long I just use a sponge to sponge it out. Or, if the tray has been dry for too long I will water. Trees are now emerging in good shape from winter and will be cut back hard in summer. Shall post some photos then.

for those interested in an update ......

has been 12 months since this was put together
allowed to grow with little pruning since
survived a Sydney winter but emerged looking a bit sad (like most figs!)

was, just the other day, completely defoliated and pruned back hard

now to develop the foliage pads over Spring/Summer

Looking great how is it looking back in leaf?

This is how it looks today.

By this time last year I had defoliated each tree. It took a long time to come back into leaf.

I have come to the view, probably wrong, that if I am constantly 'at' my trees then I risk them being in a permanently weakened condition. So, I regularly allow them a season 'off' when I do as little as possible. I think this encourages vigour but I'm not saying I'm right - just what I do. That is why it looks unkempt.

Thanks for sharing, bot the image and the advice. I tend to agree with you, they'll appreciate the time off.....bit like ourselves, I reckon... sometimes ya just gotta spend some time in your undies...

They certainly are looking fit and healthy!
