Hi all

This was what I was just about to post and was beaten to it. Yes we simply state whether we wish to have a critique or not on our submission. simple solution. Love the idea of a vote for various sections too.

This was a great idea but it lost momentum... is anyone keen to become the project leader and make it happen?

Regards,
Steven

Run with it then Jason!
My 2c run some polls on the debatable items covered in this thread. Let the masses decide and we can progress.
This was the only reason we lost the momentum.
Indecision.

Ok boys n girls.

Let's get the show on the road!

I propose the following:
  • Steven, can you create a 2014 Show "category" with a Show Trees thread as a sticky.
One primary show thread sticky where we post a single photo of one tree per "entrant".
In each posting, if you would like comments or discussion on the tree, you place a link to the same photo posted in a seperate thread but the same category below. If you prefer the tree to be simply for display, then simply don't post a link.
No general comments in the sticky thread. Comments welcome in the individual tree threads.
Trees must be in bonsai pots (or slabs, on stone, or any final planting structure, even crazy like Jun's tyre if that's your vision for the tree) but bags, styro and plastic grow-ons are out.
They must be photographed with care, so either a proper camera or a high quality phone photo. No blurry out of focus photos please! Cleaned oiled pots. Weeded pots. Clear/uniform background (make an effort) Stands/mats/companion plantings etc encouraged, but not necessary.
Deadline for submission . . . . Suggestions? End November perhaps?
You must be the owner of the tree.
You must give the trees common name, scientific name and approximate number of years in training for/as bonsai as well as a discretionary text of up to 50 words to say something about the tree if you choose to do so. Perhaps you just bought it and wish to credit a previous owner, or say something you feel to be of specific interest. If you wish to elaborate beyond this, open a separate thread.
Tree photo can be taken at any time of the year to allow for things like winter silhouettes etc, but all tree images must be posted in the month of November, to avoid a dribble of entries.
A tree can be entered in future shows, but with a three year gap. This to try to keep the show thread fresh.
Ausbonsai is predominantly Australian in it's membership, but there are quite a few internationals who call this our online home club. The show is open to all forum members.
After the deadline, I will choose between 3 and 5 trees I like and comment on why I like them. Next year someone else can do it. Of these trees, I'll chose one to go into an honours gallery which can be a second sticky. There will be no marking/ judging of any trees, and the top five will not be ranked with the exception of the favourite chosen each year for the show honours gallery. This gallery will slowly fill with trees that are not necessarily 'the best', but that spoke to the commenter most in any specific year. Something a bit different.

Comments?

Have I missed anything? There will always be differences of opinion on prizes, judging, etc, but let's give I a bash
I've this and see what pops out of the woodwork! :tu:

Cheers,

Andrew

Really keen for this, excited to get my first entry into a show and glad to have it be the ausbonsai exhibition. Looks like a great format Andrew!
