sorry to hear this bud. how much sun did you give per day. were you pinching or playing with the tree?

hey pal, it was just the layer, so its not a massive loss, would of just made a nice little tree if it worked out.

the tree/layer was getting 6-8 hours sun a day and i wasnt playing with the tree or pinching it out or anything like that so i dont know why it didnt take
it might make a nice jin at the top of the tree anyways i am thinking of doing a complete thin out on it and then wiring the secondaries that are starting to harden up anyways so that might be a plus
havent thinned a juniper out as much as i am planing anyways so thats a bit of a concern

Natural choice is the second one but the first is a bit more unusual and i like it,just my 2cents worth,Good job anyway you look at it

actually i took the layer off today, there was no sign of roots and i know why now aswell, it was way to moist, the bark was nearly rotting off, next time i do an airlayer on a juniper it will be with a soil not sphagnum it stays to wet.
so i have jinned the leftover bit and taken it back to a stub because it didnt look right with a big twisted bit of deadwood coming from the top.
it now basically looks like the second virt, i will get pics tomorrow as it is to dark now.
what i do have to do is thin the foliage right out and do refinement wiring as it is way to thick at the moment and it will allow me to wire out the tree properly and get some better defined pads

quick question on this one,

if i thin out the foliage to wire out the secondary branches will it cause any drama to the health of the tree?? i would think thinning out would help it getting light into the inner foliage and will help with overall ramification??

i know its a basic question but i am wondering if they sulk for a while when this sort of work is done??
