This comes from my experience with prices of retail stock, and the potential it has. A few years (maybe not in my hands) and it could be up there with your one at the collection

I suggest that the cost of production shouldn't come into it, nor the age of the tree or how long it has been in training.

I think that you should judge it on its appeal to the buyer.

G'day Pup - In my opinion, this tree could sell for as low as $800 and as high as $2000. It depends where you sell it and who you sell it to. If it was in your backyard to a mate - it would be cheap. If it was in a retail nursery it would be more expensive. If it were at the National Collection, it would hold more value and would be insured for a higher figure.

At the end of the day, it depends whether you consider me as a mate or not when i pop over to your place next May!

If i saw it in a nursery, i'd guess its price as "Display Only - not for sale"

Ydid invite us newbies to have a stab, so here is mine. I think if I had the money I would be happy to part with $1500 for a beautiful tree like that, but only if I could be sure I could keep it alive and it would still be worth $1500 in a few years and not less because I didn't know how to maintain its beautiful appearance (eg pruning to keep in shape etc.)

Glenda when ever you buy something at that price( what you have suggested ) I would expect the seller to give some help in its on going requirements. With a rundown of the best techniques for pruning re potting and such.

Yes Glenda I have and want some from newer members, as it was started as a learning curve, to make us evaluate a tree more so than just look.

Leigh, there are a few of you coming over next year, with the same thing in mind. I do have others that are for sale not just for the exercise.

I agree with Leigh, if i was to buy quality material from a show $2000, provided it was a lazy $2000.
Nursery maybe $1200 down to $800
From your yard up to $800.

I don't think it has anything to do with overheads or the like, but where it is sold and the status the owner and the tree have. I suppose like a show dog, the owner and the parent animals have ribbons and papers to prove quality and they have a staus within that community, likewise i'm sure with bonsai, if you were to sell this tree at a show you could command the high $ as long as you have the status, i.e your well known or if you are well recommended.

This tree is still getting some responses and looks so I thought I would BUMP it. As Loretta has asked whether the discussion that started this thread was resolved well that for sale thread has been locked so I assume the tree has been sold or withdrawn. This one is still up for discussion.

I will ask a question.

Why because it is in my back yard dose it have to be less. If I had an Antique that was worth $ 10,000-00 would it be less because I sold it from home.

When we sell through clubs we have to pay them a commission, well we do in our two clubs as this is fair because we are in a captive audience scenario.

So Most of the sellers I know put that in. As for being known, by whom. I personally have an International name, as just about any body who has put up a thread has.

Good old Google, I have written articles for international Magazines, does that mean my shari is worth more, I think not if it is shari it does not matter who made it.

It is still shari. So lets see where we go this time.
