We're very lucky to have such passionate advocates of Australian natives in the CBS. I don't want to name them for fear of leaving anybody out, but they've certainly made me very interested in what we have here.

the slanting bottle brush and the big gum tree (Gav s ironbark I believe) are standouts for me, very beautiful and well executed...thanks for posting the lovely trees

Yeah its a lovely tree with the rock but what is interesting is it's the same species as the snowman.
I was thinking it was unusual the bark and leaf are different on both. Coincidentally my wife brought home some native plants yesterday one of which was tagged as Snowman.

Maybe they ran out of ideas for the commercial names this one is different again, might have to confiscate this one.

Really enjoyed the symposium and everyone's talks. Learned so much and nice to meet so many friendly knowledgeable people there. Thanks to everyone involved in running it, you did a great job

Winning trees:
Best of Show: "Snowman", i.e. ironbark, by Peter H.
Second: Acacia howittii, Photo IMG 20200229 above, I don't know the name of the artist.
Artistic Merit best: Burgan - Kunzea phylicoides, composition with rock and deadwood. Again, I don't know the name of the artist.

CORRECTIONS:
Jennifer sent me the following:
Just saw your post on AusBonsai – couple of things.
• We don’t actually have a ‘best in show’ . The ones you’ve identified are public choice (...)
• The first placed tree was a Kunzea phylicoides, not the ironbark, and
• on principle we (as in CBS) don’t put names to trees (even just first names) on public sites for security reasons. If the artist wants to put their name to it they are welcome to do so, but we don’t.

Public Choice
First place : Kunzea phylicoides - "Snowman" (Canberra)
Second place : Acacia howittii - Sticky wattle (Central Coast)
Third place: Leptospermum 'Aphrodite' Tea tree (Canberra)

Hi Greg
We tried to do this a few years ago, but it was very difficult to get quality video and time consumming to edit. We could use a commercial AV company to do it, but that would add significantly to the cost for participants. So, we haven't pursued this as an option
Maybe you will be able to make it to Hobart next year.
