The detail is intense and wonderful, but might I suggest that the outline is straightforward, and does not match the complexity of the detailed branches? Maybe some ins-and-outs, light and shade, density and open-ness? It's a great tree, showing years of intelligent care, but maybe you could (cough) mess it up a little?

STRICTLY only my opinion - it's a very fine tree as it stands. Well done. Damn fine.

I was just up looking at it and these photos definitely aren't doing the tree too many favours in that they make it appear more "helmeted" than it really is. I have cut back pretty hard so hopefully as it fills in the "light and shade" will become more apparent. It's propensity to grow is very difficult to reel in, so I'm inclined to believe it will do a reasonable job of messing up my order all by itself in a matter of weeks!

That's progressing really nicely R3. I really like the alternate front view.
Looks to always be generous with its foliage mass.
Feedback from me would be to start selectively sacrificing some of those living branches into deadwood areas.
Would help age the tree immensely.

Anyways... you're on a winner there mate. Yipeeeee!

Looks like some painstaking small wiring. I find it can be tedious at times getting my hands in there on compact trees, but worth it and a good challenge.

Getting my hands in to work on this is definitely not the easiest thing to do, luckily it's not a brittle/fragile tree and can cope with a bit of a pounding quite well ... you still have to have your wits about you though to avoid destroying past work and snapping bits off!

Mmmm... I'd like to say yes because it is a very fun thing to work on, but unforunately this is my only one. I got it as an experiment when it was tubestock from a co-op nursery that isnt really local to me, and on the occassions that I have been passed it recently, it has been closed so no opportunity to grab another one. I'll keep trying though.

Of course, cuttings ... for some reason it never really occurred to me!?!
I'll let a few twigs extend and then see what happens.

It might be a tad early for natives but this tree got a repot today and now has a new pot to play in... not really through choice however!
I thought the old pot was fantastic, but so did a possum who knocked it off the rack a couple of months ago early one night before I'd had the chance to lock it away. I had it in an old plastic pot to keep it safe over winter and so in the meantime got in contact with Brendon (Bad Swan Ceramics) who did an incredible job of coming up with a new container that paid homage to the old one but with his spin on it.
Love this pot and very happy to see this tree back in something fitting!! He did a great job for me, can't thank him enough.
It's a little long on top foliage-wise right now, although as part of the repot process I did cut it back (maybe 15-20%) as it was completely shapeless.
I'll let it settle in and then look to regain a bit more structure.
