Ausbonsai spring show 2020

Had a crack at a my first ever 3 point dispaly! Sadly I'm severely hampered by only having one bonsai stand I'd have liked to have the accent dwarf fuchsia on a nice little stand too, and have a throw for underneath that was iron-able, but at the end of the day it's a bit of fun.

First version uses a scroll with a mountain scenery. I like the size of this in relation to the primary tree even if the subject doesn't fit with the 'field style' tree. Perhaps it's a view of mountains far off in the distance?

Second version uses one of my beloved block prints. Subject is a crane in flight, maybe slightly more fitting for the tree, but the size is very small for the tree. My hope is to suggest the bird is high up in the sky rather than about to land in the tree.

This is a group of Baeckea/Sannantha/Babingtonia virgata I put together a few months back, thanks to Mark's enthusiasm. The accent is a Qld native Drosera Binata.

I should point out that the stand is an ikebana stand I bought from Melbourne online, two weeks before Ryan Neil gave his talk on display, and said you should get rid of any ikebana stands, because they're usually too low for bonsai.... /sigh

Happy to submit a beginner's tree and one a little further along. Earlier this year I got a promotion at work and bought this lemon scented tea tree, so I can take no credit for it. It's from Hugh Grant, with (from memory) a Marie Hewartson pot. Edit, it is looking a little sparse at the moment because I trimmed it back a week ago.

The trident is my beginner's entry, with a nice pot from Luke in Adelaide. I had intended to use this pot for a grevillea, with lovely white/red colours - but that is a few years off.

This is my first entry in any exhibition ... it's exciting in a virtual kind of way!

I'm an shy exhibition virgin too... but feel I can add a little set up.
Here is a melaleuca claret tops with accents of iron & tin.

Mel, can’t see a problem with an ikebana stand being too low.... can’t be any lower than a slab of wood for instance.
In many bonsai shows trees have been displayed on red gum slabs etc...

Ha! Gnichols - when I initially scanned this entry I thought “bl@@dy hell - that tree should be in the main show - surely - it make my intermediate entries look like poo tickets!” (Or words to that effect - a lot goes on in my head!) ... now I’ve read more closely! Congratulation on your promotion - great present to self. And drop that other tree on the intermediate bench too.

Managed to get two done before the rain set in. The first is an old Benjii Fig i have since my early days of Bonsai. A good neighbor moved north and gave me several of his potted trees . Air layered some nice branches and of course i had to put one on a rock. My aim is to one day cover the rock..
The second is a Himalayan cedar and surprise surprise another Root over Rock. The rock is sandstone so don't know how long it will last.
A lot of interesting trees about ,Cheers John .
