i think it will up there mate. i think it failed down here being too late and nights cooling down too soon.

jamie if you want to graft different stock on let me know i have plenty of cuttings taken from my large china fig (melon seed) a few months old now. I would thread graft these while keeping them in ther pots untill they take then cut the graft and you still have the cutting in the pot. pm me if you want. i will have alot of these upcoming for grafting soon These have smaller leaves than most figs and very close internodes ideal for branching.

noah, that sounds aweslome, i have heaps of benji trunks and was just gonna graft benji foliage back on but these china fig cuttings sound awesome

well after having the day off, taking three hours to try find diatomite i couldnt but ended up with zeolite, so i done a full root prune and repotted this beast, as you can tell the graft i tried is missing, it come out while repotting so i will let it run its course.

some of these roots were an absolute night mare, thank god my pruning saw was sharp!
and planted out in pure seolite, this should help with getting lots of fine feeders, and it wont have any water problems like it did in the gunk of what the nursery called soil..

and you know what... i've never used zeolite at 100%, have always wanted to but i have never even heard of it used at a hunji

so i am itchin to see how far this growth pushes before it sends out growth surge 2 please keep me posted bruz

yea will keep ya updated on the zeo. i thought i might aswell give it something to test, i reckon it will work, so far it seems to hold a nice moist level not soaking wet then drying out etc. if i had diatomite, which i will be getting tomorrow i will probably look at going into that soon, i think they go a lot better in diatomite, but i dont think it has been tested at 100%

heres a shot for brett, he asked if i air layered the top of this beast off, i said no, but i did put hormone gel on the top and stuck it in some soil and here are the results, they speak for themselves.

Maybe you should have tried the slit and wedge to get flare on the top part of the tree, I know that is an incredibly useless thing to say now, bit bloody late. (The Fly slit on a megacutting - goes with the Antonio chop, we are gonna need a dictionary to translate for newcomers..)
When you are facing a rootball like that, its good to remember that only the feeder roots are of any use to the plant, all that firewood is unnecessary. With your figs which seem to root happily it prob doesn't matter, with a more sensitive tree you would just have to preserve as much thick root as you need to keep enough feeders. If there aren't many near the surface, give it a bit of a trim at the bottom, then repot with fresh soil and maybe a wide shallow pot, and take the rootball down in stages, as the surface feeders grow.

cheers for the tips greth i actually have another fig the i gotta chop down now aswell. i will be trying something with it like we were talking bout the other night, just need to make what i need first.
