graeme, the two trees one box thing, i though ahead on that

i have used an old ceramic tyle used for flooring to split it into two compartments
there was another questiong bout the plastic box i have used, its actually a shopping basket like you get at supermakets for a small shope, so lots and lots of area to allow for drainage, tho onlything i dod do was use some shade cloth/ fly wire on the bottom and sides to stop the mix leaking to much
hope that clears up what i have used as my box...one other thing, dont ask how i got it either...

Edward, when I plant root over rock, I use a heap (not quite 100%) dynamic lifter at the bottom of the large black pot.
Generally I take the chook poo up to the level of the rock and from there up I use any old soil.
Two reasons, the first being like Graeme suggests is that the figs are on a massive dose of steroids.
The second reason: using soil from the base of the rock and above is because I only want root growth downwards.
The two distinct separate layers ensure the roots don’t get confused and do anything silly like grow upwards
Only one direction, downwards and then at a great rate of knots.
I have commented about this elsewhere, but try horse bandage tape instead of plastic to wrap the roots and rock. In my opinion you will get a better and faster result.

Steve
Cheers Steve, Thats Great information appreciated. Thanx mate.

went away for three days, i basically hoped for rain, i knew we got a little bit here but when i got back the DL had formed a hard crust, i knew it needed a good soaking so it got that straight away before i even unpacked the car.
my biggest fear was that the small willow leaf ficus in there even though it has new buds opening has dropped a few leaves aswell? any thoughts on this graeme.
the benji is sweet its got new buds pushing through quite well
so other than the willow leaf which i am a little bit worried bout i think it will be fine

it is pushing new growth pretty well so i guess i was just stressing for nothing. if thats the case that they drop some leaf when transplanted then this thing is gonna boom
