i keep looking at the first one i did, i dont know if the scroll looks right in the middle, i guess with that tree it doesnt work overly well with that suiseki etc.

i do like the option pup was talking bout with using the third entry in the setting instead, it balances better. :D

I have never tried a virt before, thought it would be too difficult. But I figured somebody has to finish behind Jamie in this competition. Virts are a lot like bonsai, slowly does it and the tree gets its own way in the end anywayI learned a lot in making this attempt, others should give it a try.

good work gerard :D i wouldnt say i have won, your tree might have more structual integrity, its just i cant see it... you need to resize it so we can see mate :D its a bit small :D
and yes time is definately all it takes with some patience, just like real bonsai just a bit quicker :D ;)

That pot is fine for an informal upright but not a semi cascade.

The tree in your second try is moving the wrong way for the display, you need more height in the tokonoma. Small things but when it comes to display it is the small things that count to the over all. Remember you are trying to create a scene.

Much betteraa

That is a lot better if you play around you will find as I do it is very pleasing when you get it right. The elements you have are all good. Just remember the tree is the focal point so it must be dominant.
Then the subsidiaries are placed.
You did make it hard on yourself when you chose a scroll that had a person. What you must not do, is repeat the the items.
Such as the tree should not be in the scroll or if you have a suiseki mountain or as in this case a waterfall do not have that in the scroll. If your tree is flowering no flowering accent.
Cheers :) Pup

cheers pup :D im happy now i got it right, or bettera anyways  :D ;)

i get what ya saying bout that, i even paid the attention of the scroll so the lady was looking at the tree, but at least it didnt conflict with the tree or the suiseki :D so i fluked that one

I like this last virtual design of yours the most, but they are all pretty workable I think.

I like this tree, especially this side view.

Here's my thumbnail sketch of how I see it from this angle. I took some artistic liberty with that long apical-cascading branch. I think the tree needs some more curves up top to distract from the long straight section in the middle.

Good luck with it!

You are quite welcomed Jamie. You put in a lot of work on your computer virtual there mate. To me, because of the lack of taper, this tree should be a bunjin style, somehow, unless one chop it down and start over again.
Good day Jamie :)

i can see exactly what you mean mate ;) there was one entry there that i was going to do it literati but it didnt look right with the straight section of the trunk so i used a canopy of pads to cover it as much as possible :D

good day to you too sir :D
