agreed dayne, that leader is to heavy to bend, i would consider cutting back to a new shoot coming of or near it when it starts coming back into life in spring. then work with what has to be done, remember movement should compliment the tree if the trunk has subtle movement wire subtle movement, if it is heavy movement, then wire heavy movement. it is always best to keep the tree in relation to the rest when choosing and wiring new leaders. a leader with heaps of movement on a relativly straight lower trunk or little movement will not look right and you can waste years tring to grow it on again, noah and i was talknig about this just the other day with one of his japanese maples, the previous owner had worked ten years on building the apex and noah isnt sure it is right.

Thanks for the info Jamie,Taken onboard, I should realy attened an advanced bonsai course as i have only been keeping bonsai for years and never made bonsai . I now understand what dayne meant , that leader has got to go (in spring).
I have had so much fun this year setting up my yard with benches (pics comming soon). Dont get too excited, Just some blocks and wood.
Do you know anyone in Sydney that will do private lessons ? during the week.
I have booked in for the JBP course with Megumi Bennett on the 4th of July for 4hrs and probably for the rest on the year.

Again,,, AB members thank you all , Love this site and the willing to help others. Hope one day i can do the same.

hi mate, megumi's course would be a really good idea, im not sure if her son is still around but Alex is pretty damn good too. other than that most bonsai nurseries will run courses. leong would also be a good one to go see about it. other than that im not sure, maybe KC could help, im not sure if the school of bonsai is Syd. based or not? cant remember.

getting some tution will be a very handy thing if i was closer to a club and nurseries that offer courses and workshops i would definately be going. especially a club, the combined experience of members can be a wealth of knowledge and they should be very happy to share.

Yea im not sure who i will have as a teacher, It says on bonsai art website that alex is still teaching JBP.Eather way it should be fun.

The school of bonsai's is in sydney but the term started in feb so i have missed that and will try make it next year with my gf too.

I am just reading tones of books atm, As I have only been using what i learnt from the Koreshoff nursary(mainly Kenith) when i was just starting to collect, Man i miss that place , I used to live walking distance to them and drool at what was kept in the private caged area.
