Hi Craig,

Cedars are certainly slow to set. I did do a bind with raffia and bend on my old cedar a few years ago and because I did a big bend it did set quickly.

Cedars do callous a lot so you could do the cut or score method described above with them. Once again the bark is smoothish to rough so it would be good to hide it as well as possible...

Craig,
There is a Colin Lewis book that describes how to use wire in a channel in the branch to set cedrus. I can't rember the name of the book I will have a look later and see if I can find it.

The wire in channel method leaves huge wounds and scars.

Better to drill out internal wood through key hole method with cordless drill, then raffia/rubber and bend.

I was away for this post and i am glad it has resurfaced. I am about to undertake a huge change on a couple of my Swampies and this info has helped immensely.

Hi all,

Here is the swampy as of today. I never did the undercut of the branches(hoping they would set without it ) so they have popped a bit; but in the flesh I am quite happy with it.

We have not had any heat yet in Canberra and the Swampy really gets growing once the hot weather sets in.

It measures 95cm from the top of the pot to the tip of the apex and the base is about 30cms accross.

G,day Grant I have to agree it does look better when the branches are not so far down.

I am of the belief that swampy;s look a lot better if we do not push them so far beyond, what their natural growth is.

This is a very impressive tree.
