A new quick photo today
Have had an issue with ant all over it and a black soot. Seems that Scale was the culprit.
Have cut back the longer top branch to a new shoot and that is growing well

I was reading the entire post and I noticed that the large unhealed scar was next to a branch that was kept short. The smaller scar higher up had a branch which was allowed to grow. Maybe the healing process only works well if the branch next to the cut is allowed to grow thus stimulating the bark to roll over the wound

Nice pick Edward, that branch actually came from a little above the scar. I was trying to get a new shoot next to it to help it heal over, but could not get one.
I wired that branch down hard against the chop mark, and over the years has covered it completely

Hi Ken, your Jacaranda is looking great!
After looking at the latest pic I was wondering if you would ever consider losing the lower right branch, and the potting the tree to the right of the pot so that the trees movement is to the left?
Just a thought?

I too a photo of the different leaf sizes that can be attained compared to a natural tree. A leaf from my tree is the one on top and one collected from a local garden tree is below.

One of the things I like about these is the Winter colour.
They hold onto their leaves thru most of the winter and turn a lovely golden yellow in colour.

Any 2016 photos?

The jac's do get criticised a bit, but they have always been high on my list. I actually started my bonsai with a Jacarandah too - way back in 1988. Unfortunately, the jac passed and too busy for many years to start with another bonsai.

In mid December i noticed a seedling pop when visiting a friend and couldn't help myself. Potted it up yesterday, up to 12th internode and training horizontal at the moment (don't know why).

Your collection always inspires me - a dedicated man - won any other prizes with threads?

Thanks Ken. How's the reno going. I should be installing a kitchen too - using tradies holidays as an excuse to read bonsai.

Have not taken too many pics this summer but I might get an update on the Jac for Y'all this weekend.

I am working full time at the moment so time is of short supply and thus Extension on hold for the time being. I am waiting for a labourer to appear ( anyone willing and able to do so on weekends? )

Did demolish the laundry last weekend as the hot water heater started leaking and needed to move it outside, That drove the need to rip apart the laundry wall to get access, so figured might as well continue and finish the demo job on that
Now just have to put it all back together

I have a little one of these that I have ground planted but I'm contemplating air layering a couple off a monster in my backyard after your inspiring example.

Would be great to see an update on this! I just sprouted 2 from seed. I was wondering if you have any flowers for year, although it may not be flowering yet (the ones here in Perth aren't, but the streets of South Africa are purple)

I'll second Ray for an update Ken.

Sydney is also full of the Jac's purple flowers too.
