Has anyone seen this done? Does anyone have pictures? Why would this not work in summer when the trees are in active growth, ...after you've decandled (and are getting the new, summer candles).

Would there be any benifit in drilling the hole down at an angle rather than up to prevent water sitting in the hole and rotting the new bud?

Cheers

Hi all,

I saw the person that is trialling this technique but he has not as yet severed the supporting part of the branch.

The tip of a branch was deneedled then pushed through the hole so only the bud was fully poking through and the area where the neeldes and sheaths had been removed would have just barely poked out. (Some buds may appear there in future?)

He said the hole was necessarilly larger (because of the size of the bud) than the thickness of the branch poked through but he did not wedge the branch against the hole. Hi did cover with sealing putty.

Growth on that particular tree was slow last year so he will not sever the supporting branch for some months or a full growing season yet I imagine.

Any more progress on this technique :?:

I'm researching grafting black pines at the moment and would love to see if anyone has had any success.

Don't want to seem too pushy or impatient, but would love to know if anyone has had success. Will be trying this year.

I have one that I threaded about October last year that is looking good, I feel like after the coming growing season it will be good to separate.
