Looks much neater now.

Due to the existing large branches sort of ending into bunches of foliage now.
Would the tree perhaps benefit from selecting a couple of leaders to extend the primary trunk/branches and taper the next level?

With such a large and well formed base I see no reason why this tree cannot be a bit larger..

Thanks mate. I do see what you mean about selecting branches, but seeing as I'm aiming for an open umbrella style I'm not so sure whether I'll need to do that or not.

Here's this tree after a repotting and quick trim the other day. I also planted it in a more upright angle. Anyone feel like doing up a quick virt? As I have NO idea where to take this tree

And I'm actually considering hacking off that first branch on the right, which would also help stimulate some backbud.

Again, nice bit of material to have to play with. If it were mine I would be inclined to keep the first branch and incorporate into the design for now, it can always come off at a later stage.

I am very envious as I'm itching to get in amongst my figs but will exercise some retraint and wait until it warms up. Seeing its a miserable day outside and I had a bit of time to kill, I did you a virt on what could be possible with your fig, give or take a few years but I do think it quite achievable. It wont be to everyones taste, but at least its food for thought mate.

Beautiful, thank you David! Love that. I especially love the base, which mine lacks extremely. I wonder how I'd go about beginning that sort of melted base appearance....

Today I chopped this tree back. I loved your virts Dave, but looking over the top today, I was unsure of how possible they would be to replicate. There were ugly bulges that had formed, big cuts, and branches going every direction. Chopping it back gave it a leader and placed it over the center of the tree. I like it.

It'll get there...

curious as to hy you have not chopped the branch back harder?

Which branch are you talking about Ken? The leader? I didn't want to take it back that far.

I presume Ken is talking about the branch on the right - I would tend to agree with him. I would take it back and possibly carve into the trunk to help with the taper. So you would just have the leader which you will grow on for a bit.
