The foam at the base contains soil for the roots of an approach graft (white towel is covering the foliage) that has been donw to shorten the tree.

Well appart from spending my life savings on pots today i also had time to wire up this little Juniper. It belongs to one of the guys that works here.

I didnt take a before pic but the re style involved an angle change.
Tommorrow i catch the bullet train to Hiroshima which ends my month stay here. So unfortunately that is the last of the pics i will be posting in this thread. Over the next month i will be continuing my travels and visiting more bonsai nurseries where i will be taking more photos and adding them to my blog (see link below this post).

Hope you have all enjoyed what i have posted, i have learnt alot and feel that i have improved greatly from being here again. I haven`t left yet, but i feel plans to return are brewing already .

Not exactly sure how old the shimpaku is i am guessing 12 to 15 years as i know that is has been in pots the size it currently is in for 7 years.

I will post some pics of the pots, but i am guessing most will think i am crazy for the prices i paid for some of them.... I bought mostly from potters that are famous here in Japan hence the premium on price (even tho i paid half retail). They should all go up in value tho as they age further.
