Love the deadwood carving, it looks very natural and just the right size.

It really completes the tree now that you've trained it into that semi cascade. Wish I had such a beautiful tree.

This tree had a good season,
Responded very well to it's new mix over the last year and pushed solid growth so I candle cut in early december and cleaned and completely re wired the tree today. This is the first re wire since the initial direction change so it was nice to work with a few years progress and growth
Here's the tree before clean and re wire

And after

I had hoped it might be a bit denser even after the cleanout, and the apex still needs to be built, but it's going forwards I think

Kerrin, I think you and R3 are the reasons that I am getting interested pines - you’re a star and your pictures/progressions of shohin pines are inspiring and somehow feel achievable. Having said that Mike and Matt have banged out some really interesting pines in the past 24 hrs too. I know pines have such a powerful connection to bonsai but until recently, I haven’t really been that interested. Meh! My mind is changing ...
Bonsai teaches me patience.

Thanks for the kind words mjl,
They are certainly my favourite species and there’s a lot to like about them that’s for sure

great job Kez, I like that you have done.
a few key points.
- I want to see more of the trunk line
- The directional branch could be cut back to inner buds.
- The apex doesn't need to be in the centre, the A-symmetry apex location is fine.
I made this sound very negative but I do really appreciate you work on this tree, It is great work. Also the adjustments I suggest are only subtle.

Good work and keep it up.
bunce.
