As the top gets more Sun, the higher shoots should get stronger and bigger.

A quick question for you all
I'm not too sure on the rules of shaping as of yet, however I'm wondering what is said about branches that go across the trunk of a tree.
As one of my ficus Benjamina's is doing this.
Here is a couple of pictures
Thanks

The rules are very clear on branches crossing the trunk, they say don't do it

The "rules" are only a GUIDE, they aren't actually rules.
Do whatever you want, it's your tree.

I think things have turned out alright here, I take it the air layer didn't make it?
I have one in the ground here that I was either going to air layer or chop back, seeing how well yours have done with the cut back I may give that a go.
Did you take any cuttings too?
I will likely take a heap and even try to see if the larger branches will strike, not sure if I can wait for an air layer or two on this tree.

Unfortunately my air layer did not take.
All 3 of mine have managed to really bounce back and back bud. However what I've noticed is that they bud heaps at the base and at the top, but not too much in between.
No I didn't try to strike any of the cuttings.
