LITERATI/BUNGIN AND ROOTS>
The Literati style, with its emphasis on trunk line and movement, requires roots that do not detract from the line. The one with no visible roots above the soil is better than one showing too much root which could be competing with the trunk line. Please have this in mind when deciding how much root to display.

I'm not posting much elsewhere because my 'spare' time is being taken up with the launch of a new bonsai forum similar to AusBonsai. Almost ready to go public now.
I'm watching everything that goes on with the competition though. Keep it up.

We have all the entries in and we're away. There's some really exciting prospects according to what I've seen. This is going to be the competition of the year (pun). Go go go!

I appreciate all that is happening within the bunjin contest. I check on any posts every day but am trying to set an example by not cluttering up the entries with comments, thus keeping them clear to record progress for the judging panel. Keep at it.

while we are talking about the contest, being a year long contest people may lose interest in it all, what i would like people to think about is to try and post at monthly intervals on any updates or info, even if it isnt much or the tree hasnt shown anything, this way the judges will have a full years progression they can go over and see the difference from what it was to what it will be.

So please remember to take your update pictures

good luck with your trees and i hope you all the best with them, and hopefully we have minimal losses, i know we have had a few including one from myself.
remember it doesnt have to be in a finished state, it is to show an understanding of the style and how you are getting it to that finished state.

I will add some updates soon. I have one dead one to add to the list. Two specimen losses this year That is about half my total since starting

I actually did some minor work on mine last tuesday. Took a photo too which I wil upload today

Montlhy updates would be good if everyone can mange it

thanks guys, i know i havent done it everymonth either but i think it will make it a lot easier for don, pup and leigh in the long run


as i said above it doesnt have to be when you have played with the tree or tweaked it or anything like that, just showing an update that its alive and well, or growing strong and a pic is all that is needed.

if you do do some major work obviously before and afters will be better in the long term for you, this comp isnt just about the finished tree. a lot of the scoring is going to be on presentation, information learned and your understanding of the style, along with possible pot selections etc.

Advice is good because all the readers will gain knowledge and experience through it. Comments like "Nice tree" or "I look forward to seeing what you do with this" etc just clutter up the site and make life difficult for the judges. I would personally like to see a 'start' photograph and a 'finished article' at the very end of each entry thread in November 2010. This doesn't mean that I don't want to read every word in the progression over the year. It will make summing up more streamlined. Waddyathink? =Don.

they all will be slowing down as we are into winter, but still
