I was captivated by the attention to detail, the beauty of the display .... what about the tree that made way for the Chojubai!!

The little things... the tea poured into the glass, unstrained. picking the excess flower buds off... and the bugs off...

Any the final display - just lovely in its simplicity but simplicity is hard to achieve; it requires an eye for detail and balance. An artists eye and/or an eye that appreciates nature... an eye that doesn't walk past the bee....

Thanks Mel. Made my evening... prior to that I was watching Dancing with the Stars with my youngest daughter (yes.. I was!I) but this video was somewhat better ... perhaps not in my daughter's eyes.

Bjorn also recently posted a video on YouTube showing a repotting of a root over stone Chojubai into one of the antique pots he was gifted upon leaving Japan/ Kouka-En. No real info in it, but few videos show repotting of Chojubai so I found it useful on that front.

I don't think the tree in that video was chojubai. Smooth bark, way too big for chojubai and flowering before the leaves come out. Almost certainly one of the many standard chaenomeles varieties. Any cultural info that you picked up would be applicable to chojubai though.

Agree, that was not a Chojubai, nothing to do with Chojubai, he states Chinese Quince, not that either. Definitely a chaenomeles. Still a nice thing to watch.

ok upon reflection, perhaps my initial response was a bit OTT but I still love the video - even if I didn’t realise the tree was not a cho!

Please accept my sincere apologies for not knowing this little tree was not, in fact, a Chojubai. I can only state that because I live in a sub tropical climate I've never actually seen one in the bark. I hope you're not all too traumatised by my serious error.

The only trauma my end is with toilet paper! And that does relate to ‘my end’ .... literally!

No problems Mel, was a nice one to watch. There is another one by some guy in the UK who is also claiming to have a Chojubai he's really chuffed with it. The only problem is that its a Chinese Quince! With leaves and pink flowers

My chojubai suddenly and unexpectedly started flowering.
But something is very rudely eating the petals overnight

Could it be earwigs? Or something else?
Any suggestions on how to protect it? Like put it in a container that's in a container of water?

Probably slugs.

I repotted chojubai a few months ago. Removed about one third to half the roots.

When should chojubai leaf out?

I'm worried I killed them somehow... Hoping they leaf out soon.
