Well Ian's banksia has finally found a new pot, Jarrod came over and gave me a hand to put it in this pot as it is more than a one man job these days, we gave it a good prune at the same time.

Hi Craig,
In your most recent photograph after shift to the new pot your great banksia bonsai is leaning more to the left. Is this intended to go to a more slanting style or is it an artefact of the photo? It is just the the branches show its previous position still.

Ash

I also was a friend of Ian Edwards. You have researched him well Lindsay, he was one of Melbourne's eccentrics. He really lived a spartan and somewhat squalid existence. A lifetime bachelor and a man that was into art and classical music. I used to visit his Richmond home in Miles St which he lived in rent free and was owned by Cliff Hocking by the way. I also new Clifford, a very well known entrepreneur.

Ian worked for the forestry commission and would go into the bush for several days at a time to inspect native eucalyptus for scientific samples. His bonsai were superb, amongst the best in Australia as we can see from Craig's excellent example. I'm not sure how old he was but remember him telling me he was working before the second world war. I believe he had dementia the last few years of his life.

This tree is one of the really spectacular trees greeting people at the front of the collection opening today.

This tree really is a testament to the hard work put into it, and quite possibly the best Australian native bonsai in Australia!
:aussie:

Congratulations Craig, on a tree to be proud of!
