3rd that. Has it flowered before?

I don't think it has flowered before, and it's probably a bit of a long shot, but would be awesome

I want to 4th that. Would love to see an update. I'm from Pretoria in SA. This time of year the place is purple. Fantastic to see
With the falling flowers, the streets become VERY slippery for cars, bikes and people alike....

Unfortunately, Jacs styled as Bonsai will not flower as to keep them under control we must trim them. As jacarandah only flower on the tips of new growth, we cut them off!

Anyhow I like the leaves and bark so they have great presence anyway.
updated pictures of him tody before an after a light trim of said new growth.

the end of winter I cut back hard to bring back in the leggy branches and it has back shot nicely since then.

Looking great! Any ideas to leave the trimming for a year or two to see if you get some flowers?

How often do you repot and root prune?
Do you just cut through / sever the bottom layer of roots or do you bare root?
And when do you do it?

I think even if you leave the growth I've read they rarely flower if grown in small pots. The ones I have seen on ebay selling jacaranda seeds with the token picture of a bonsai, always seem to be showing purple wisteria.

Is this getting any growth yet? My saplings are just starting show a bit of life.

The reappearance of this thread made me realise I needed to get the one I was ground growing out....it's tripled in height and doubled its girth!

I love Jacs this time of year as they hang on tot he old leaves for ages and they turn a golden yellow colour

Still in 2 minds as to whether to remove the top 1/2 of the tree and gregrow for taper, or to just leave it as it is.
As bonsai it is 2 tall and not enough taper, but as it is an unusual tree anyway and the bark on top is just cracking up I am unsure of which way to go

Anyhow I just enjoy it as it is for the meantime

Looking good Ken! I know what you mean by cutting the top half, but I kinda like how it looks anyway!

I've always loved this tree. We've just bought a house and the garden is great. I've already started an area for my trees. The backyard has a jacaranda which I see myself taking an air layer off in the future, I just need to scope out an area with good movement and taper. I think I'll aim for a broom style.
