Decided to give this a go myself, 3 species of fig were used although not sure on exact species, 1 i know is the qld small leaf fig. Also attempted it with a weeking lilly pill. All were dipped in rooting gel and potted in river sand. Fingers crossed some take. I will admit the cuts were a little sloppy, used seceteurs as i dont have any root pruners.

I potted this up last year after reading this, should I pull this out now and check the roots and repot? then follow the rest of the directions. Whats everyone think?

Hi All,

I am just about to try this on my two figs. One is a natalensis and the other a burt davii. I am not a big fig person so I have a question - whenever I cut a fig it bleeds a sticky white sap. If I trunk split it, is there a way to stop this sap flow, and how do I get the hormone powder the the place where it counts - on the cambium, if all that white sap is running everywhere?

Spray the cuts with water till they stop bleeding the put the hormones on them.

I just did this technique to a couple of Willow Leaf cuttings I have. Is it necessary to stick toothpicks (or the like) into the wedges? I did not do this as I was able to keep the wedges from going "back together" (I was able to spread them). This is what I did:



I just buried like that with nothing wedged in the cracks. I assume it will be fine, unless you all think I should in fear of the wedges growing back together....

Nevermind, I went back and placed toothpicks between the wedges, just in case

Hey everyone i was just wondering should i be putting a plastic bottle over the cutting to make it more humid or is a spray with the mist setting just as effective?
I took two cuttings today from a tree growing wild next door. One is 20mm wide and the other is 10mm wide at the base. I am interested to see how they turn out

your in rocky , its BLOODY humid enough. One thing i dont miss about the place.

Hi ya Rocky, nice start just an observation, why do you put them in with the trunk straight? If you were to plant them on an angle you would have movement straight away, as the leader thickens up.

A much more interesting start then.
As I said just an observation.

Not sure pup .
There is pleanty of cuttings still available on the tree which is taking over a palm tree next door. I will do some more and try planting them at different angles.

Can a ficus cutting go straight from the tree, into a seasol bath into a Vermiculite/perlite mix????

Yes just make sure the mix stays MOIST NOT WET, and the soil and air temperature is not below about 10c
