Thanks again for the photos Gerard, some quality trees there. The A. howittii certainly got a beating! Is the other one A. cardiophylla? Which variety? It's a great season for the wattles.

Well spotted Gavin, I believe you are correct with cardiophylla sorry I cannot give you more detail about the species.
It is quite old and has improved dramatically in the last year under the care of its new owner, I also like the Lorraine Simpson pot.
Hopefully someone can tell us more.

  Thank you all to attended last night to our first meeting. We had a great turn out and look forward to growing the club and increasing our knowledge on working with our great Australian Natives.
Gavin, the A Cardiophylla is West Wyalong Wattle, it's supposed to be around 40 years old so the myth/fact of acacia's being short lived is already being questioned in terms of this tree. It was repotted late January this year and it hasn't looked back.
Boic's, the little guy you refer to could be a tea tree, the tall tree it is next to is a Mountain Ash. Great looking tree.
Hope to see more of you at our next meeting.
Thanks Gerard for posting photos up.
Regards,
Marcela

Thanks Marcela, very interesting about the age - maybe with constant root and branch renewal, the Acacias may live a lot longer in the pot! Hoping so anyway. There's a good trunk buried inside that cardiophylla.

Marcela and Mr. V, Congratulations for what you have started!!! I am sure that with your leadership the momentum will continue to grow.

Mr. V, I know you are a lurker here and will definitely be following this thread . It would be absolutely fantastic if you could 'come out' and post some of your knowledge on natives (and bonsai in general) here on AusBonsai. You are without question, one of the greatest bonsai artists and horticulturalists that we have in this country. Your input to our AusBonsai community would be invaluable in assisting our art grow. So, how about it??? :fc:

Regards,
Steven

thanks for the pics, Gerard. What a great show! Well done to all concerned.
Healthy mix of youngsters and oldsters.
Really appreciated the first one in the second set of photos: planted on a mallee root maybe? Exciting styling and not looking like an attempt at Japanese styling.
