gday lindsay :D

could you tell us what species of tree that the bloke was working on to start with in the lastest video? the branch work is very intricate and the leaves as so small and dense i would love to have one, at first i thought it might have been a carmona microphylla or as they say they are now ehretia rigida? but im not 100% on that??

very interesting how they will have the tree go through different feelings of season through such a short time but i can also understand it, i feel the same way, as i cant grow all deciduous trees, but i can grow some, i still dont get autumn colour and half the time they stay in full leaf, i like to think of my figs that way when i get to defoliate them and see them in a silhouette as being in winter and when they start to shoot that spring is here. in a sense, if ya get what i am saying :D

Josh, I made a 13 part Bonsai series for Foxtel in 2000. I think the web is the way of the future for bonsai.
Jamie, Yes its a carmona microphylla. I share your enjoyment of multiplying the seasons.
I think LuZhei Wei was eluding to the taoist ideal of living to 300 years in a round about sort of way. Maybe you can't live to 300 but you may enjoy 250 winters, 250 springs, 250 summers. I'm satisfied with 1 autumn a year. I hope you get some colour this year.
Cheers

I think that they prosper in high humidity. It was steamy when I filmed this in Guangzhou. You can see the lens getting all steamed up. (may have been brought on by the hot bonsai)
A couple of my friends have made gallant attempts to grow them (carmona microphylla) in Melbourne. The results have been dissapointing. You should fare better in Queensland.
It's amazing how China can be so brash, then you commune with penjing masters and get taken back to another era.
Lu Zhei Wei is true literati.

I want to acknowledge Ausbonsai contributor "BOOMY" for the wonderful translation work for this episode. Translation not only requires technical skill but it must be accompanied by creativity to inform the viewer. Nice work Boomy.
