Hi Mel i m a bit lost to where you are going with the tree or is it the photo angle and you want to tilt it more forward, wondering are you going for a cascade now?

Hi Anthony, no, not cascade, I'm still going windswept, but will sit it properly in the container before doing the final cutting back for this season.

Considering this as front, with a bit of faffing around with positioning that front trunk less awkwardly...if poss.

This is one of my favourite trees posted on this site, I can imagine the wind blowing and shaping the tree. I like both fronts, my concern about the first one is the v shape formed by the backwards movement of the back branch.

I placed this tree in the RBS show with this angle, because the scar on the trunk is still a bit too eye-catching, and not in a good way. I'll probably keep it in this container for awhile.

Nice tree Mel, I like the current front choice. Nice pot too, don't see too many Gyouzan's in Australia. Let's hope with more exposure and shows we continue to see the tree quality increase and fine pots to match.

Thanks SquatJar, I bought the pot from Bonsai Island, very happy with this combo. We have certainly seen an increase of quality of trees and pots at Redlands in the past two years. Having Marie Hewartson on tap has helped, of course. Also Keith Stanley and Lindsay Bebb have given talks on display hints as well. Some of it is clearly sinking in.

You should… the tree/pot together are brilliant!
Never got a certificate of anything before, let alone merit… I’m envious!

Thanks Ryan, it was a surprise, I've never had any recognition before! (Especially since so many of my trees are more penjing styled, so you can imagine how well they go down.) I think the tree prefers the deeper pot too.
