I'm a newbie and welcome the advice
I saw a couple of starter plants so will probably go for those rather than the ones in pots.
Just wish there were some proper bonsai nurseries up my way!
Moved up to Nth Qld a year ago so still learning my way around.

Will be trawling general nurseries me thinks...

Visited Bonsai South nursery in Sydney while i was there and that was awesome!

no probs agnes, anytime dont be scared to ask questions, all good

im sure some of the landscape nurseries and that will have some great stock, keep you eyes open for ficus and the likes that o really well up north, the better the trees naturally do up there the better off you will be with seeing some quick results

There is also a nursery in Oxley run by Robin, hes a friendly fellow with a good selection of pots I am in a hurry atm but will add details if I remember later

have been to the morayfield one once, and got a basic tool kit etc, i remember not having enough money when i was about 15 or so to get any trees D:, how are the prices now? Are their books, pots etc competitive or are they really expensive? Just trying to see if it is worth the 50 min drive and be disappointed to find that like $150 might get me another stick in a pot D:

Hi moopoo Australian bonsai grower is probaly more like a wholesale nursery - they do have some finished trees and pots but mostly they have starter stock. They have a huge range of trees in all sizes and are priced according to the pot size. Well worth a look and take plenty of cash - they dont take plastic.

I both love it and hate it when a nursery does that. Love it because it saves me money (but costs the nursery sales*), and hate it because I don't have enough cash for something I've fallen in love with.



*I'm not a businessperson but I think if I ran a nursery there's no way I wouldn't take EFTPOS/plastic because it's a real impulse-buy business.

That's where i bought my Azalea from. Nice guy no EFTPOS there either so take cash. Heaps of pots and some really great Figs (insert drool icon here).

Definitely worth a look. He has sooo many pots and some really beautiful and interesting trees. Very cramped with little room but very nice. He runs it as a nursery so he has a good mix of new cheap plants with some really old and expensive trees. I forgot to mention that your best off to call him first before you go there just to make sure he's actually there as he only runs the nursery on a part time bases (but its his house so he does look after his trees). Most weekends and Wednesday arvos i think his opening times were.

Thats alright I gave an unrequested report on the Oxley one but I'll be waiting for that Morayfield one I haven't been there yet its a bit of a drive for me to go there to find out its no good but i guess its always good to see different people's plants and see what they have to offer.
