Amazing to see the differences of opinion.

The only thing I see wrong withthe first photo is that the owner isnt smiling....I would have a smile from ear to ear if this were my tree.

After the work that has been done to the base and trunk, I would want it to be growing as lush as possible so that I could take it to the next stage.

Antonio, can you make sure that this tree is posted in a years time, get the owner to smile as he will rightly do at that time after he has got the roots strong, and the top replicating the base.

Keep em coming Southern cousin :D

Regards
Steve

Gday folks!

Having seen the giant Prunus at the BNW Show yesterday, I humbly retract my original assessment of the tree. Antonio's photos do the tree no justice, and - as is so often the case on Forums such as this - it is necessary to see the thing in person to get a true sense of its presence.

If we look at this tree as 'traditional' Bonsai, there are probably a lot of broken rules, but now that I've poked my nose into that foliage, I tend to look at it as more of a landscape planting, not unlike the Vietnamese form (Hon Non Bo). The trunk is less like a tree than it is a weathered pinnacle of stone, and the branches could be considered to be individual trees clinging to its uppermost reaches (although it was nigh on impossible to distinguish the branches amongst the foliage). I would love to see the tree in Winter to confirm my new assessment of it.

So, while it is still not a masterpiece (yet), it is a very significant tree. There is still a lot of carving to be done (believe it or not :!: ), and I still have issues with the pot, but I will be very interested to see how this tree progresses over the next few years.

Thanks for indulging me in my U-turn. ;)

Fly.

Nice tree Ant, and a nice bloke, ie.The one that doesnt smile. But he has so much knowledge and not much teeth maybe thats the case for not smiling too much? This is a little moment that ant has captured but we dont know where the road will end for this tree, and seeing some of baloc"s trees he will make it shine.no dought about it :D :) ;) I think it looks magic as is in photo but most likely even better in real life. ;)

Hey Ant,

It would of been nice to get a photo without leaves so the rest of us could see why this tree is so amazing. I guess now it's been sold you won't get that opportunity.

mexican weeping pine that would be pinus patula. They get fantastic bark when older. The foliage is never completely convincing though
